The Extraordinary Effect the Nazis had on Hollywood
In the 1930s and 1940s, as the horrors of Nazi Germany engulfed the European continent, Los Angeles became a sanctuary for some of Europe's most celebrated artists and filmmakers who changed American movies forever. At the same time, the Hollywood studios were run by Jews who controlled worldwide distribution networks—an enormous power base. However, that makes their timidity regarding Nazism a matter of psychological, cultural and political interest. We will examine both responses.
